Context
Alteon is a cloud-based SaaS platform serving small to mid-sized creative teams in video post-production. The product enables secure media storage, review, approval, and collaboration across web, mobile, and integrations with professional video editing tools.
When I joined, Alteon had strong technical foundations but needed clearer product direction, stronger workflow cohesion, and a higher design quality bar to support growth and retention.
The Problems That Mattered
Several challenges limited the product’s ability to scale and fully serve its customers:
- Delivered a unified end-to-end Review & Approve workflow
- Improved consistency across web, mobile, and editing tool integrations
- Established clearer standards for product and design execution
These were not feature gaps alone; they were system and alignment problems impacting customer satisfaction and team velocity.
My Role & Approach
As Head of Product & Design, I owned product vision, design strategy, and execution, partnering closely with engineering and leadership.
My Focus was on:
- Clarifying the core user workflows that mattered most to customers
- Bringing structure to ambiguity by aligning teams around shared goals and success criteria
- Raising the quality bar while maintaining momentum
- Staying hands-on where it mattered: initial concepts, reviewing flows, prototypes, and shipped work while empowering the team to own outcomes
I emphasized early alignment, clear decision-making, and pragmatic tradeoffs to ensure we shipped the right solutions, not just more features.
Key Initiatives
- Defined and delivered an end-to-end Review & Approve workflow, unifying previously disjointed product experiences
- Improved cross-platform consistency across web, mobile, and editing tool integrations
- Established clearer product and design standards to support faster, more predictable delivery
- Explore AI Workflows as unique opportunities in post production workflow
- Strengthened collaboration between design, product, and engineering through shared ownership and clearer priorities
Impact & Results
- Delivered a cohesive core workflow that improved usability and customer confidence
- Reduced friction in collaboration and approval processes for creative teams
- Improved decision-making speed and clarity across product and engineering
- Raised overall product quality without slowing execution
- Created a more scalable foundation for future feature development and growth
Reflection
At Alteon, the biggest gains came from focus and alignment, not from adding complexity. By narrowing in on the workflows customers relied on most and ensuring teams were aligned early, we were able to improve quality, velocity, and confidence across the organization.
This work reinforced a core belief of mine: strong product outcomes come from clear priorities, shared understanding, and teams empowered to execute with care and discipline.
